Since I’ve made a present for my daughter, I needed something for my son. My son loves to play chess so there was not much to think about. A chess board was also on the list of things I wanted to make when I first started this hobby.

You might first think how to make such pattern but below would explain most of the part. Glue dark and bright wood together. Cut them vertically and then glue them again after crossing them.

The key is to have precise right angles and parallel wood and it turned out fairly good. I didn’t think about the width of the cut but it was quite a bit (1/8″) so the final board was actually smaller than expected but it was still usable 🙂

Again, it’s really great when you make something for someone you love. Such a rewarding experience.
